Rock The Mill 2009 – Aug 8 2009 – Featuring, The Artist Life, The Snips, Gentleman Husbands, Everyday Legend, Gracefield, I am Commiting a Sin, Life Like Rockets, Moglee, Some Other Influence, The Speakeasies, Ulysses and the Siren, Unlimited
Although in its 8th year, this was my first time visiting The Rock The Mill Festival. I had recently seen videos on youtube of rain pouring down on last years event, and as I looked up into the gray skies of Cambridge, I couldn’t help wonder if this year would be the same. But, apart from some drizzle, the rain stayed at bay for the most part of the day.
Opening the festival this year was “Some Other Influence” who claimed their last show was coming at the end of August. They were followed by, Unlimited, Everyday Legend, Life Like Rockets, The Speakeasies, and Moglee.
The Artist Life was one of the bands I was looking forward to seeing live, and they were well worth the wait. They had an exciting stage presence, and had the crowd screaming, and dancing in the rain during their entire set. The Artist Life was followed by I am Committing a Sin, and Ulysses and The Siren, who I had caught a brief glimpse of at the small pub they played in at the SCENE music festival in St. Catherines a couple of months back.
Gentleman Husbands, and Gracefield kept my interest peaked through both of their sets, but The Snips are the reason I came today, and they were well ready for the stage here, and with 6 very active members they utilized every square inch of it. I had photographed The Snips at the Mansion House outdoor stage at the SCENE Festival, and couldn’t wait to see these guys play again. Kingdoms, Farewell to Freeway, Chad Michael Stewart, The Junction, and Saint Alvia were all bands that were also on the bill, however I had only stayed until The Snips were finished their set, as another festival in Hamilton was on the schedule for the same day. Unfortunately, I probably should have stayed at Rock The Mill as the Festival in Hamilton had no cover from the rain, and my camera had become somewhat waterlogged within a short period of time, and ended up going in for repairs for almost 2 weeks, with a very hefty bill.
